We believe that the key to long-lasting and lifelike dental results is using the latest and most reliable technology, like our intraoral cameras, digital X-ray imaging system, and cone beam 3D scanner. These help us plan out every detail of treatment, like the optimal location of your dental implants and the type of TMJ disorder that you suffer from. To learn more about some of the gadgets that we use in our dental office, take a look below.
Intraoral Cameras
Intraoral cameras are small, hand-held devices that we can maneuver around your mouth to gain an up-close view of nooks and crannies located between and around teeth. They also allow us to capture still images and video footage that we can display on a large chairside monitor to better explain any oral health issues you may be facing and how our recommended treatment plan can help.
Digital X-Rays
In the past, dentists would use film X-rays to be able to view the area of your mouth that lies below the gum line to diagnose problems like tooth infections and impacted teeth. Today, we utilize digital technology that not only makes each examination more streamlined, but it also produces higher-quality images that reduce the chances of improper diagnosis. In addition to these benefits, digital X-rays expose patients to up to 95% less radiation than their film counterparts.
3D Cone Beam Imaging
We pride ourselves on using the most cutting-edge dental technology. Our 3D cone beam imaging machine is an example of how we use the best tools with expertise to accurately diagnose and care for our patients. During a cone beam CT examination, an arm rotates around the head in a complete 360-degree rotation while capturing multiple images from different angles that are reconstructed to create a single 3D image.
CEREC® Digital Impressions
Messy putty impressions are a thing of the past. At Derby Dental, we utilize our CEREC digital impression system to capture a detailed, 3D digital blueprint of your mouth to send off to our dental laboratory. Using that, they’ll be able to craft a perfectly-fitted crown, bridge, denture, or mouthguard for you. The process only takes a couple of minutes to complete, too!
iTero scanner
Our iTero scanner enables us to take 100% digital impressions when planning treatments like dentures, crowns, and veneers. Rather than creating a physical model of a patient’s teeth by having them bite into a mold filled with gooey dental putty, we instead use a small device to scan the mouth that generates a perfect digital impression on a nearby computer. Compared to the old way, this process is faster, more accurate, and requires much less cleanup (as in none!).
